The data

Underlying counts are public-domain US government data and Open-Government-Licence ONS data; the licences are listed on the data sources page. The metrics computed here — living estimates, ages, location quotients, trends — are released under CC BY 4.0. Use them, including commercially, with attribution to ninan.org.

Accuracy

The figures are computed as described on the methodology page and are estimates where that page says they are estimates. They are offered without warranty and should not be relied on for legal, medical or financial decisions. Corrections are welcome.

Scraping

There is a JSON endpoint for every name page — linked at the bottom of each one, and listed in the sitemap. Please use it rather than parsing HTML, and keep request rates reasonable. If you need a bulk extract instead, ask.
