5. Kinmel Hall, UK: A Calendar House in Peril
Standing as a testament to Victorian ambition, Kinmel Hall in the UK boasts a unique design. Remodeled in the 1870s by W.E. Nesfield, the house is a “calendar house” featuring 365 windows, 12 entrances, and 122 rooms – one for each day and month of the year. The red brick and cream stone mansion exemplifies Gothic architecture with its adorned ceilings, steep roofs, and panelled walls. Sadly, a fire in 1965 and subsequent abandonment have left Kinmel Hall in a state of disrepair. Preservation efforts are ongoing to save this architectural marvel from further decline.
